Bridging the Gap: Uncovering the Connections Between Music & Dance
With support from the Arts Council of Ireland, I underwent a period of research collecting names and stories of influential instrumentalists within the Irish music tradition who also danced. These instrumentalists are frequently remembered only for their musical contributions and not for their ability to dance. This work was conducted to raise awareness of the inherent link between traditional Irish music and dance. It was presented at the Leitrim Dance Festival in Ireland, and at the Ward Music Archive in Milwaukee, USA in 2024.
Willie Keane (1927-1998) as an Icon for a Dance Identity in County Clare, Ireland
This research was conducted for my MA dissertation which analysed the dancing and affect one person can have on a community and its identity. Willie Keane continues to be a huge influence on my own dancing, as well as many others.
